Xoloitzcuintli (Mexican Hairless Dog)
The Xoloitzcuintli (pronounced “show-low-eats-queent-lee”), commonly known as the Xolo, is a very old breed that was revered in Aztec civilizations as a spiritual guide for the souls of the dead to the underworld. Also known as the “god dog,” it is known for its sharp intelligence, tough hairless skin, and loyalty as a watchdog.
Its deep loyalty can sometimes manifest as territoriality or excessive protective behavior. While its mystical appearance might seem intimidating, it can be friendly with proper training. This breed is best suited for experienced owners, as it requires consistent, advanced-level training from a young age.
