Rottweilers are well-known for their large size and herding abilities. Their inherent courage and loyalty to their owners result in a strong protective instinct, which can make them appear intimidating to strangers and sometimes lead to aggressive behavior.
They can get along well with children, but careful supervision is always necessary as they may misinterpret rough play as a threat.
