Monteverde Rainforest Bridge (Costa Rica)

Hidden within the Monteverde rainforest in Costa Rica lies an extremely perilous suspension bridge. Constructed seemingly haphazardly from wooden planks, the gaps between these planks are barely the size of a foot. What’s more, many of the wooden planks are rotting and could give way at any moment.

Adding to the danger, the bridge’s ropes are so thin that you’d question whether they could even hold a child’s weight. The Monteverde rainforest is also home to creatures dangerous to humans, such as jaguars and snakes, making crossing the bridge an inherently risky endeavor. Considering the potential consequences of falling from the bridge, it’s an experience that’s all the more terrifying.
