Storseisundet Bridge (Norway)
The Storseisundet Bridge is a national road bridge that connects the Norwegian mainland with the island of Averøy, characterized by its beautiful parabola and gentle arch. This refreshing beauty makes you want to shout “Yahoo!”, but the actual construction was not easy.
The area is prone to severe hurricanes, and it took six years to build the bridge. During that time, it was hit by 12 hurricanes, so a lot of money was invested in the construction of the bridge. 75% of the funds were covered by public grants, and the remaining funds were to be recovered from tolls. Initially, it was expected that the cost could be recovered in 15 years, but in reality, the expenses were recovered in 10 years, and it became a toll-free road from June 1999.
