Myth: Concrete Floors Will Drain Your Battery

You will still find old-school mechanics who swear you should never leave a car battery on a concrete garage floor. This myth actually used to be true. A century ago, battery cases were made of porous materials like wood or hard rubber. Moisture from the concrete could create a “bridge” that allowed the electrical current to leak out, draining the battery overnight.
Today, however, batteries are encased in thick, non-porous polypropylene plastic. This material is an excellent insulator and is completely unaffected by the surface it sits on. If your battery dies while sitting on the floor, it’s because of internal chemistry or old age, not because the concrete “sucked” the power out.
