Myth: EV Batteries Only Last a Few Years

Because our phone and laptop batteries tend to degrade after two or three years, people assume the same will happen to an electric car. However, EV batteries are engineered to a much higher standard and have complex thermal management systems to keep them healthy. Most data shows that modern EV batteries are designed to last between 10 and 20 years before they need replacement.
While the battery will lose a small percentage of its total range over a decade, it is rarely enough to make the car unusable. In fact, most manufacturers offer an 8-year or 100,000-mile warranty specifically on the battery. If they were prone to failing in just a couple of years, the car companies would have gone bankrupt from warranty claims long ago.
